Life Skills Coaching

SKILL-BUILDING AND SUPPORT FOR YOUTH AGES 12-21 YEARS

Childhaven provides free Life Skills Coaching to at-risk children and youth ages 12-21 years. Our Life Skills Coach (LSC) steers youth toward healthy adulthood by assisting them in building specific and usable Life Skills that include an array of activities, resources, relationships, and opportunities for services. The program is designed promote the youth’s successful integration into the community. Life Skills are not treatment-oriented or remedial in nature, but are focused on experiential education regarding normal functions and abilities that aid navigating complex social, educational, health, treatment, justice, and other systems with some degree of comfort.The LSC works to connect or reconnect youth to their family (when possible) or other supports. Services are provided primarily onsite at Childhaven.

Specific skills taught through the program include, but are not limited to:

    • Personal hygiene
    • Time management
    • Navigating/accessing medical, dental, and vision care
  • Transitional Planning Skills
    • Housing Planning
    • Career Planning
    • Accessing public transportation
  • Educational Success Skills
    • Obtaining a degree
    • Study Skills
  • Social Skills
    • Interpersonal communication
    • Conflict Management
    • Relational issues
